Just some speculation of what I think he meant:

First attempt: Could not attack at all while in the Roborider during the escape sequence where you kill aliens to get keys.
Second attempt: Restarted MS and tried again. This time attempted to glitch the robo but it would not proceed to the next event.
Third attempt: Left the base.
