Actually, he used to take the opposite stance of that. Something to the effect of:
"I'm a journalist, and I don't want my being gay to affect how others perceive my reporting. I want to come across unbiased and as neutral as possible." So he kept his gay life in the background. Or at least tried. Some of his mannerisms are a bit too much to hide, though. That's the cutest giggle I've ever heard, and I want to pinch his cheeks and buy him a good evening dinner.
