There are other people you can randomly group up with in the world.
And no, Warriors are not frail. They have a lot of interrupting skills and some other movement skills like leaping. Melee is a lot more difficult to learn in this game, but that's the tradeoff for not being able to run around in circles and kite. Once you get traits to help you with melee weapons, they'll start to look more appealing.
The problem that your friend is probably having is not being able to see the visual cues of when to dodge, which is understandable. Some are very obvious, like a giant stomping the ground, because of the long cast time.

I find myself jumping in doing a few good damaging moves, and then having to kite around for like 20 seconds for it to refill to keep using moves like Death Blossom and all. Were you spamming skills? Like doing some blind rotation? A lot of my friends seem to be stuck with the typical MMO setup/mindset and are having trouble when they shouldn't be.

Secondly they are one of many professions who need a good strong balance pass on their utilities to bring the bad ones in line. I think right now the professions with the strongest utils are Warrior, Elementalist and Guardian. We will work to catch the others up before ship. And I think they're going to be doing a lot of work on them for BWE3.
