I'm saying Japanese might not know much about christianity based on that fact and that I havent watched any anime that potrays it in a good way since Rurouni Kenshin. All right well, I don't watch as much anime as the guys in the current anime thread so I might be wrong.
It's not a question of understanding religions, it's challenging the perspective of "pure" and "good". Angels are universally seen as "good", but in perspective maybe that self image makes them unpure. Psychotic for the name of their own personal Justice. Look at deathnote, Kira was considered a God, his intentions were pure, and on the cover, yeah reasonable. But as the story progressed you find such decisions are much more complex and harder to draw the line.
I don't know the right way to put it, but in a sense they are just extremists, shinigami essentially "purge" hollows and recyle them, quincy outright obliterate them that f`ucks up the balance. So you can see, their decisions are nothing but black and white, like most "angel's" judgement would be.
And if I recall there wasn't any real "encounter" with an Angel in the bible, or not the ones you're describing anyway.
