The creators enjoy the horrific spawn of their work. They spent an episode to tie up minimal emotional ends and stir the pot of the internet. It's a trade off. Would you rather try to enjoy this show over the insufferable din of shipping weirdos on the internet, throughout its entire length? Or have them be appeased/silenced all at once at the cost of one episode of progression? That's at least laughably enjoyable for the rest of us?
On top of that, 22 minutes is a tough length for the story they're trying to tell here. It always seems rushed. The only alternative would make it be like DBZ, where nothing gets resolved in any episode because everything is stretched throughout multiple episodes.
