I find the whole idea of marriage in MapleStory to be out of place.
The characters in the game do not have anything resembling a normal life. We do not get older, we do not have homes, we do not have children. We also do not have bodily needs - we don't sleep, eat, eliminate, or have sex.
So just exactly what is the point of "marriage" in this context? You pay your Nexon Cash and you get a pretty lovey-dovey animation, a private chat, and a pass for Amoria Party Quest. You do not share a household, you do not raise children, you're not "married" in any sense that parallels real-life. I don't see any logical reason why a couple of characters of the same "gender" can't pay their NX and get their APQ license the same way.
Not to mention that everybody in MapleStory has the same parents - that middle-aged white couple over HHGII - so Maple marriage is incestuous!
However, as mentioned above, gay marriage in Maple would not be a good idea for Nexon. The anti-gay-marriage crowd is much more likely to boycott Nexon over it, than the pro-gay-marriage crowd is likely to boycott over only having heterosexual marriages.
