I doubt it actually does, but you could actually use such a process to detect hackers. If the game detects the application is closed, instead of closing Maple, it could send a message to the server that warns that whatever connected account is screwing around with files. Of course, you'd need actual proof before you go banning people (Something I doubt Nexon would do), but it COULD actually be an effective way to catch hackers if you really wanted to.
Of course it doesn't help that this creates performance problems for some players, meaning that they are likely to end it (Even if they don't realize it's Maple related), which is why any account detected would have to be monitored, however if Nexon actually did some good work this could be an effective strategy.
It's obvious that normal hacking prevention isn't working. Adding HackShield Mk.5000 is not going to magically fix it. Using their own, proven useless hacking prevention system though...that's not going to help much either, considering Combat Arms (That's where it comes from, right?) is just as bad and has been using it for years.
Of course their notice is most likely bullshit when it comes to "It will flag your account," and is probably more of a cry to stop doing it. However, if it were ACTUALLY implemented to do the above, it would probably be a more effective strategy than they have now.
