Maybe I just didn't get it but it seemed "okay". There's no other anime like it and it isn't bad, it's just different. Can someone explain why they liked it so much so maybe I can go "ohhhhhh, okay I get it now. Yeah if you think of it that way, then it is awesome"
I completely enjoyed Bakemonogatari, but I can totally understand a lukewarm reaction. At the end of the day, it's a lot of dialogue and not too much else. I think what sets it apart is that it's a lot of incredibly well-executed dialogue wrapped in a rather unique and very sharp animation package. And glorious fanservice. Usually I don't think fanservice as blatant as what the Monogatari shows pack adds anything, but they somehow get away with it and thrive on it.
Speaking of glorious fanservice...
Nisemonogatari 8:
I have the weirdest boner right now...
...for the amazing music they paired up with all that and Tsukihi's Looney Toons-esque exit.
Pedaling back to episode seven which I also just watched:
They just talked to him? That's it? And he leaves? Boring. Boring as hell.
