Eddikins is correct in that MF has a decent early game. She goes OOM really fast if you spam, so it's not wise to do that. However, she has a moderate steroid from W if she needs to commit (up to 50% AS and healing debuff and minimal magic damage). MF also has a psuedo-auto-attack Double Up, which aids in last-hitting and has the benefit of some harass. MF's passive grants her the equivalent MS bonus of boots 2, so she can be a bit difficult to pin down with skill shots, although if you're relying on auto-attacks to harass her, the passive might not really help much xD Unfortunately, MF's attack range is the standard 550.
In terms of team fight contribution, MF's ultimate has quite a long range. I imagine that, ideally, MF would open up with her ultimate when a team fight breaks out, and her passive allows her to quickly commit to auto-attacking when it is time for her to jump in and lay down the hurt. There was a patch a while back (Ahri Patch Notes) where MF's ultimate damage got jacked up really high. Final damage value went from 110 to 125 per shot. Dedicated MF players can already land good ultimates. Imagine the horror now. In the span of two seconds at rank 3 R, she can potentially do 1000 damage + 3.6/bonus AD + 1.6/AP per target.
In terms of skirmishes, MF's rain skill grants her vision to wherever she casts it (iirc), so it's fine for rounding corners or entering bushes in the jungle. It also slows, giving you time to chug out your W damage.
For some odd reason, most of MF's abilities scale with AP, and since it is likely that her team has someone with WotA, bonus damage. Also, many of her skills do magic damage, and since MF is primarily an auto-attack champ, her damage can be considered hybrid. Hybrid champions tend to hurt more, no matter which way you spec, though that's not to say it's futile to try to get defenses against them. In the long run however she does mostly physical damage versus beefy champions.
Personally, I think she's okay early game. Not as weak as Kog'Maw or as strong as Vayne in a kill lane (dat Condemn). Her late game has crazy potential however, given good team coordination and protection.
