To be honest, at this point, if the server crash theory HAD to involve hackers, I would be more inclined to think it was just one hacker.
The fact that the servers go bonkers for 4-6 hours a time, mysteriously remain stable for a solid 9, and then go bonkers again would indicate that this was done on purpose. The 9 hours of stability could represent the hacker sleeping, or doing other things. The 4-6 hours of bonkers time is easily represented for the amount of time this hacker is putting into the game.
So maybe the theory of 1 hacker doing it isn't so far fetched.
