Well i think everywhere has the channel now, but originally in Japan you had to send of your SD card or whole Wii to nintendo to get them to fix it.
It's nice that they can do it that way but it's hardly great. First you have to know about or encounter the glitch to go into the shop and download the channel and run it. As opposed to the game just auto patching and you carrying on oblivious.
Also I don't believe they never offered that option for Metroid Other M.
I just find it stupid they seem to have left themselves in the same situation again with the 3DS. It would be really simple just to patch Mario Kart. Perhaps they can do some workaround like they did on the Wii with the 3DS but just can't be bothered since it's not a game breaking glitch.
The Nintendo Network only appears in Europe. In America it just says connecting to the internet for some reason. So i guess this will probably turn out to be nothing interesting.
