The kyuby would take a female form to lure out men and steal their souls... or something, but it was still a male. It's voice in the anime doesn't sound female at either.

Two of the past hosts were female. There was Uchiha Madara, Hashirama Senju, Kushina's grandmother, Kushina, and Naruto.

Uchiha Madara and Senju Harishama tamed the Kyubi using their skills (Sharingan / Mokuton), they never were hosts. only Naruto, Kushina and the other woman have hosted the Kyuubi.
