It would help if you have preferences from other games or previous characters, that post earlier really does cover things pretty well though I would split things up slightly differently, because I find the difference between close, mid, and far range splits the classes better than dps.

close: Melee range. Can hit up to 50-100 pixels in front of the character. Tends to get hit with bump damage more often, and cannot avoid magic attacks.
mid: Long melee range/short aoe range. Can hit anywhere from directly in front to halfway across the screen. Not much bump damage, still vulnerable to most magic.
long: long range projectiles or large aoe. Mostly projectiles have a "min distance" where they'll do weak damage if a monster is too close. Can generally avoid being hit by magic attacks because they can stay far enough away. However, all the long range classes have low hp so they die more easily when they do get hit.
