On topic question for anyone who knows: Do supports need Magic Pen? I've been taking it just so i provide a bit of damage (as well as the cdr from the tree) but reading around tells me people of high elo go 9 defense instead o.o
Also would not having it badly effect my harrass burst on Sona?
It depends on the support. Almost all supports have a differnt rune page and item build for me. For example I get a bit of ap with soraka cause of her nice ratio's and a chalice on sona as 4th item whereas I don't get it with any other supports. Sona is one of the supports with heavy harassing options so magic pen would be better on her then for example armour marks. She also has armour from her heal passive so it isn't as needed and you should get yellow seals on her so that adds up too. It's debateable on which mastery route you go. It depends on if you level heal or poke up first. You can usually see at the laning partner and opponents how it's likely to go down. Ashe with Sona against Urgot/Janna? Better to go with that defense route.
Tl;DR: Go with m. pen marks/masteries on Sona, Lux, Maokai, Karma and Zilean, if you focus on poking the enemy. Adjust this to laning set up and how it's going. If you're short on space or are plain lazy. Go armour marks/seals, mana reg/5 glyphs and gold/10 quints. Go 0/6/24, grabbing gold, exp, cdr, mana, summoner spell boosters, better recall, ward sight, armour and m resist mastery.
