My way of grinding Alchemy is making Defense Potions, then making them Defense Pills. This is quite efficient since you make 25 Potions every time, while transforming them to Pills goes per 5. You can also make the Defense Pills advanced if you have the plates/jewels (only needs 1). The downside is that you have to hunt for the Pill recipes, but they aren't hard to find.
For example, I found an Advanced Defense Pill III recipe, so with 3 Rosemary Seed Oils and 1 Steel Plate I get the exp for 7 actions (1 for making the potion, 1 to make it advanced, 5 for making them pills). All other items can be bought at the NPC.
