Prog metal discussion! Must get in on this.
Evergrey
Awesome prog metal band. Has interesting lyrics that deal with anything from cults to alien abductions. Their lead vocalist kind of sounds like Chris Cornell.
Pain of Salvation
Another great prog metal group. maybe not as heavy as Dream Theater, but it is still powerful music. Lead singer has an amazing voice.
Only downside I can think of for this music is that it is kinda depressing, so don't listen to it if you are in a bad mood.
