They knew the "problems" would be common because they're aware people all play differently. Some people will be able to use the motion controls properly. Others will forever fail to grasp the idea of motion controls. They're not perfect and they have hardware limitations. If someone says, "I swung the Wii remote too hard and the calibration went off," whose fault is it? The player's or the game's? They added those abilities to compensate for those who will never be able to grasp the controls well.
