Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword [SPOILERS]

Ok guys, help

Lanayru Mines are annoying me and I haven't even gotten to the temple yet. I just got the little pincher thing that allows me to drop bombs from my Beetle thing. So now I'm at this part of the desert where there's a tree in front of me with a bomb that I am presumably supposed to take a drop on something, but there is only quicksand and monsters/areas that I cannot reach ahead of me. I spent like 45 minutes running around trying to figure out what to do...

Are there those crustacean monsters with the medal shells in the quicksand? If that's what you're talking about, you have to drop a bomb on them to kill them, then use their shells to run across the sand to safe spots and repeat the process until you're at the other side.
