The game is designed so that "beef damage" is a necessity.
The people who believe that "beef damage" is a necessity do so because it is a fact.
It is currently going toward that direction, because developers see it as an easy money maker.
If someone works hard on developing new game changing concepts and realizes that barely anyone appreciates it, why should they continue to do so?
Why not just satisfy what the customer wants? Since so many people believe that "beef damage" is a necessity to this game, why not just cater to that?
In the past, events (such as the giant snowman with the claw one and those jump quests) required some kind of timing skill or barely involved damage. People actually did the events for fun, because it provided something new, regardless of rewards.

The events truly were great, and I'm not talking about reward-wise (because, really, that's the last thing which matters to me), but I'm talking about the whole thing. The quests, how you could choose between Maplemas and Versalmas, and, especially, as you said, the Snowman event. I really liked it. It was very well-made (you had to fight with a claw which you got from boxes around Happyville and then when Snowman appeared snowball throwing stars started snowing from the sky). Then you had to gave the little elves the gift boxes it dropped to get a prize. I really wish they held that event again, because I really liked it. I even suggested them to do it, but, as expected, I wasn't heard.
Nowadays, the events are freaking repetitive and simple, and they have these power-satisfying rewards. Log-on every day for this and that, as opposed to just playing for the fun of it.
