Is there any matchmaking, or am I just doomed to be playing with horrible players until I hit the level cap? I haven't really bothered with the masteries/runes/spells yet so I imagine I must be at some sort of disadvantage, and yet I'm dominating (or in the games I lost, the only one on the team that didn't feed) in every game with only Dota experience prior to this.
Hey Dusk what's up? First of all...welcome.
About LoL matchmaking: what's fabulous about it is that you're matched with people the same level. Aka, if you're a low level, you're matched up with people around your level, not high level peeps. However, I'm guessing you already have lots of experience in the DotA/RTS genre, so I'll go ahead and say that you will likely be dealing with people who are just starting LoL (and probably not play at the skill level that you have atm). And of course, there's people smurfing on low level accounts, so watch out for that.
For runes/masteries: Right now since you're starting off, don't worry about that. If - and if - you do choose to get all the way to level 30 (before DotA 2 comes out), runes/masteries start becoming extremely important because they help your champion(s) out during early game phase quite a bit. (IIRC, someone said that having an optimal mastery page/rune page setup will boost early game effectiveness by up to 30%, which is quite significant IMO). But right now don't worry about that; when you're past level 20, start asking questions about it and we'll be glad to help you.
