A carry its not someone with high damage/burst only, its someone that can deal high amounts of damage to towers whenever the enemy isnt there because if you remember the whole point of the game isnt only killing the enemy team, its destroying the towers to reach the nexus and "AP carries" might kill enemies fast but if you are the only one left alive after a Team fight, at best you could take 1-2 tower before the enemy gets back on its feet, AD carries can usually take more than that if done properly.
