Every year the Halloween events involve NX, so this is THEIR TIME to make a few extra dollars from the average player. Thus, the intent isn't as you say, "to give everyone fun" but to give those willing to fund them (directly or indirectly), more fun than those not willing to spend a penny.
If Nexon really wanted to earn a little bit of extra cash, then they should put in this treasure chest thing in permanently. It would then just be like expensive Gachapon, and I would have no problems with it. I just don't like the fact that Nexon is calling making this an event. I don't consider that an event. It would be very easy for Nexon to change this into an event that everyone could benefit from. Users could open 1 chest a day without spending any money, and if you wanted to open more than 1 chest, you could spend a little bit of cash and do so. A lot like the Mini Dungeon event that's going on right now, and I don't see how this is impossible to do.
If you didn't realize it yet, this event isn't even that fun. It's basically making the poor envious and the rich richer. That's not good in any society. I may have my own delusional idea of what the definition of an event is, and I'd love to hear your definition.

It's like people poverty ridden trying to single out those living in the middle class. It's not a very logical argument. Finally, we live in a Capitalist country, so deal with Nexon forcing the average player to learn how to utilize the MTS. Again, they're not forcing you to go to the store and spend some money, rather, they're suggesting you use what's already available to you so they may gain a profit.
Abilities? This game doesn't not require many abilities. You only need a lot of time on your hand, be able to scam people, and memorize prices.
