They are the normal people, doing their normal things - who will, in time of need, join forces to defeat a greater evil than any of them can take on alone. But they are not to be burdened with this right off the bat. They are not being trained to fight the Black Mage. They are being trained to live their lives as Explorers/Adventurers, seeking fame and riches all over the world.
The fact Explorers aren't tied to any specific storyline doesn't mean they don't deserve some decent quests. Actually, they should be the class group with the most quests - they're Explorers, there should be new quests and adventures wherever they go. Also, just because they started as normal people, doesn't mean they can become heroes of Maple world, write they OWN legendary stories about Explorers who trained hard to become powerful enough to fight besides the actual Legend classes
When a Explorer hits lvl 120, he's as powerful as Empress Cygnus most powerful knights and we have no real enemies to fight in Victoria Island (except for Balrog, which is sealed up inside the deepest levels of the Cursed Temple), why not prepare yourself for real challenges? You're no longer an ordinary adventure who used to kill slimes for their bubbles, your a warrior capable of tanking the largest enemies, a mage who summons the power of elements to wipe out whole maps, an archer with the ability to shoot arrows faster than the human eye can see, a thief furtive enough to sneak past monsters and attack them when they least expect them or a pirate that has explored the deepest caves of Aqua Road and sailed the skies aboard every boat on the game. Why should such powerful Maplers be treated like "ordinary people"?
Also, Explorers have enough reason to fight the Black Mage. He almost blew up Victoria Island and in the future he has completely destroyed Henesys and probably killed almost every Explorer in that version of Maple world, high leveled Explorers can just sit and wait for an invite to join the fight against the Black Mage, sometimes the greatest heroes are the ones who were born to be just an ordinary Mapler.

I still have a [storybook] frozen book of ice. =/
Well, skill quests are annoying. Everyone wants immediate access to all their skills once they get to 4th job, at least level 10 mastery. Quests should be an alternative and rewarding activity for grinding. And of course, they should be worth reading (most quests are just "help an NPC get X amount of items, give it to him and then never talk to that guy again").

A Bishop who doesn't want to heal/support/buff shouldn't be playing that class in the first place, or at least should be playing it on a party.
