About the naming:
Windows NT 3.5 > Windows 2000 (NT 4.0) > Windows XP (NT 5.0) > Windows Vista (NT 6.0) > Windows 7 (NT 7.0) > Windows 8 (NT 8.0)

Well, this isn't REALLY true, because the NT (Network Terminal) is aimed at the Windows Server OS, but Microsoft agrees with this OS count Wink.
