"Everybody else does it" is probably the most tempting and popular rationalization, second only to "but it caused no harm". It's like herd immunity, once enough people deviate from the herd, everybody else is as good as done, and it starts with a handful of people. Granted, this can't be helped, but that is also why it shouldn't be tolerated with.

That is, of course, if you have a problem with the end result.
