Ah I misunderstood what you meant, I thought you were talking about Sakura admitting her "love" to Naruto, instead of Hinata. Woops. Either way, it wasn't really in earshot of the whole village.
Again, Pain was pretty dam strong and as far as I can tell, nobody in the entire village could stand up to Pain like Naruto could with sage mode + the kyyubi. The rest of the jounins were fighting pain's other bodies, his summons (which cannot die and multiply when you kill them), etc. It wasn't exactly an easy fight and there was a lot of confusion. As I stated above, Naruto didn't want his friends to get in the way and Shikamaru's father took note of this when he told Team Gai to stay out of Naruto's way. He said Naruto was "on a different level now." Btw, Pain's last body has more attacks than just attracting/pulling people, so he is still pretty pineappleing dangerous.
I don't understand why you think Sakura is useless? She is currently the best medical ninja that we know of besides Tsunade or that old woman from the sand (whom is now deceased).
I'm also not sure why the Sasuke vs. Deidara ending needs to be mentioned. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Deidara is losing and decides to self destruct in his greatest work of art thing. To survive, Sasuke summons Orochimaru's snake and controls it with his sharingan and hides inside of it or something like that. He survives, snake dies. Team Hawk comes and saves Sasuke, the end. What was wrong with that fight?
