It just doesn't make sense to me. Just because we are caught in a tiny sliver of time compared to the big picture doesn't mean that we don't know what's going on. "Not having the capacity to even appreciate the slightest change going on" is just silly.

We've figured out what galaxy we're in, and the surrounding galaxies, galaxies that aren't surrounding us at all. Even if humanity developed in the midst of the collision, like he said, we could determine by the size and shape of our current galaxy what is going on. We would know that our galaxy was in the midst of a collision.
