Dude, just look at it. Each of those dots are thousands of stars, flying around in perfect unison, some get sucked to the cores of the galaxies, some get thrown off to the tails yet still bound to the core, sweeping across space like a boss. Our sun is simply one of the thousands of stars in ONE of those tiny tweeny little dots. Even if we were among the billions of unlucky star systems that get thrown off into intergalactic space, what would happen to us? Well, nothing! Since all we do is revolve around OUR sun.
When I think about it, this kind of event, "galactic collision", sounds like an end-of-the-world kind of event, but even if we were caught RIGHT in the middle of it, in both space and time, we will not have the capacity to even appreciate the slightest change going on. If humankind were to be born and develop in the midst of that, it would be like us pausing the video to build a spaceship and get the entire population out of there, all in ONE second. It is JUST that grand.
This video makes me feel that I am just far too insignificant a something on a scale like this, yet I'm sitting here watching it unfold, thinking about its way of working and commenting about it. This just doesn't feel right. To have a glimpse of my state of confusion, try to explain to me just how long 4 billion years is.
