They gave them a chart listing Obama's views but under McCain's name and vice versa. Based on that, the people picked Obama, which really meant they were picking McCain

I know, and I meant you could find McCain supporters and give them Obamas policies in the guise of McCain and get the same result.

Those 3 people you heard would not have been the first 3 random people they spoke to. They could have spoke to a lot of people before they got the reaction they wanted for that piece.

But like I said, I'm neither for or against either candidate and this probably reflects the fact that many people support someone based on something other than substance.
