Although you keep bringing up the point that this was the first time that someone with a sealed soul was tried to be summoned, I still feel that the 3rd and Orochimaru should have been able to realize/understand that they could not summon someone who is sealed away. If they didn't understand this, then what is the point of sealing people away? Orochimaru knew of different ways to seal people (for example, him searching for that sealing sword that itachi had) and I doubt that a shinobi of his caliber would make sure a rookie mistake as to waste his 3rd summoning on something that could not be summoned anyways. If it was simply the 4th in there, then the 3rd's reaction and everything that happened in that chapter seems out of place to me. Since the 4th can't be summoned, wouldn't the coffin not even rise from the ground? I can't find a point in Orochimaru summoning an empty coffin to the battle field...
