This just seems to vary from mouse to mouse how bad it is.
On the really bad end, my old Dell mouse:

Not so bad, the $10 Logitech mouse I got to replace it.

Now I keep the Logitech mouse around for when I need smooth lines, cause nothing else has managed to be so good. I don't know what this feature's supposed to add.
To test them I basically just traced the circle on separate layers. With some mice it's easier to stick to the line than others...
