tl;dr:
1)NEXON made MS one of the most complete MMOs adding in both the past and future in its gameplay, not just hearing stories of it.
2)Ms2 would only work if it's in a different dimension and world
It depends on how far the "Past" really is in MS1, they can easily set MS2's storyline to be thousands of years before Ellin Forest. Vindictus is set like 5000 years in the past of Mabinogi, what's there to say they won't do a similar timeline for MS2? Just because MS1 has a "Future" and "Past" doesn't mean MS2 can't go FURTHER into the future or past than that of MS1. If the Black Mage ends up being the "End all be all" final boss or whatnot, then they could set MS2's storyline to be X thousand of years into the future after the Black Mage's defeat; Or they could go into the past to BEFORE the Black Mage came into power and have it go up to his "Defeat" from the Heroes. There's a ton of options Nexon has at their hand for an idea of MS2.

Warcraft IV will be the sequel to WoW, if it ever finishes / dies. WoW is continuing the Story / lore from where Warcraft III left off.
