Except Uryu was strong enough to be able to fight 2nd transformation Ulquoria for a short while without being immediatly blown away (example of being immediatly dealt with: see around half of chads fights, and no, I'm not arguing that he should have stood a serious chance against Ulquoria). These nobodies really should have had no place catching uryu off guard twice when he damn well knew there were 2 of them this time. And when has Kubo missed the chance for a fight scene.
Also, I doubt it was solely about convincing soul society, notice in the last few pages, Rukia isn't using her zanpakto, it's still sheathed, Urahara probably came up with something to give ichigo his powers withotu sapping rukia dry again, but needed time to finish it.
