@Worthyness: Woah, that kind of teaching behaviour sounds ridiculous. If a teacher like that ever came to our school they wouldn't make it past the first week.
It's not just his school; most schools where I live have that rule. It's in effect all the way from when you're six to when you're twenty-one. (all the way through primary school, secondary school, Junior College and after) Assuming of course that you don't drop out, and are male. Females are not subject to this rule, but can get punished if their hair or skirts are too short.
Basically if you're male, anything with bangs, sideburns, is slightly above the collar or that looks generally displeasing to the teacher will get you yelled at/punished/spoken to.

In September we're getting a new headteacher and I'm starting to wonder how strict the new rules will be (if there are new rules).
