Take classes part time. Assuming the problem is the workload and not the studying/work ethic part, then part time classes are the way to go. Taking 5-6 classes per semester that require 3-4 hours of readings each per week is simply not reasonable, and its no wonder so many students end up doing poorly or skip readings and homework (Yes, a lot of that is due to having a social life and partying as well, but even if you tried to do everything, you'd just end up making yourself miserable).

What I've always done is take quality over quantity. I'm required to take 33 credits a semester (roughly 6-7 courses per semester, as some courses span two semesters), but what I've done the last two years is take closer to 24/27 credits by taking one or two courses in the summer. That way, my workload during the year is reasonable, and I'm not stuck wondering what to do in the summer either.

And if you don't like what you're doing now, quit. Find something else. Honestly, if you're being probation'd 1 year into University and have no motivation to go on in this certain field, you're basically screwed already. 2nd year isn't getting any easier. Neither is 3rd or 4th year. If you're struggling through first year already, then what makes you think you'll pass the next bunch? Find what you want to do, take a few courses on it now before they let you back in (or start over at a different school), and go from there. And don't overload yourself. I'm not sure what the requirements are at your school, but at mine, full time = 60% of required credits per year (so in my case, 60% of 30, or 18), so you can still go to school full time without taking the full load. It's better to do well in 5 years than to do crap in 4 to graduate, least that's my opinion.

My school is based in a quarterly system with 3-4 classes per 3 months. My problem wasn't so much the workload or studying, I was doing good with my homework and projects. It was the exams that pretty much messed me up. I'm like one of those sods that can't focus for crap on tests, regardless if how much studying was done before.

I'm probably going to take classes I guess, but at the same time I want to take time off just to figure out what I want to do personally and not just based on an academic perspective. I actually started school a year before I should have (at 17), so maybe I wasn't mentally ready for it. I dunno, lol.
