It's an indisputable fact that items in Maplestory have value.
This can be evidenced by real-world sales of such items.

For it to be a "casino gambling game", it'd have to be in a casino.
It is without-a-doubt gambling though. It's wagering money hoping to get something nice out of it.
Personally, I refuse to invest any of my real-world currency on NX items on an indefinite outcome.
Cubes are a gamble.
Gachapon is a gamble.
Protection Scrolls are a gamble.
Surprise Boxes are a gamble.
Yeah, that's just off the top of my head.
