When off screen would he have learnt genjutsu then? Before he died when he's offically a moron for not simply having a genjutsu pain body and simply using that one against jiriya? Or are you suggesting he learnt it, you know, after he died?

The only thing he's shown that is remotely like genjutsu is the mental bariers he had put in that guy jiriya captured. And for another aside, the 3rd databook explicity states that Nagatos hobby was practicing ninjutsu.

Even if his hobby was practicing ninjutsu that does not mean he never learned genjutsu. And i don't know, there are many YEARS of his off-screen time where we didnt see him. And maybe he didnt want a path for genjutsu? I have no idea, but that he has the potential to use genjutsu is there.

This manga doesnt make sense, the sooner you just go with that it'll all be easier. Naruto wasn't meant to be able to use kage-bunshin and yet made a ton of clones. A lot of things done by the characters in this manga sometimes seem extremely odd and seems to be the hard way out.
