I feel sorry for Uryuu. The massive arrow fatality he did to Mayuri was his first and last moment of awesome, everything else he does pretty much screws himself over.
I think Kubo intended Uryuu to be a rival to Ichigo like how Sasuke is to Naruto, but gave up halfway, opting instead for the overpowered main character plan.
