What I wish stayed consistent with Uryuu was that he'd maintain his relationship as a rival to Ichigo and that he'd always be second to Ichigo, but Ichigo would still always surpass him by far. Uryuu's power-ups, aside from the glove, have not been impressive; and unfortunately, it's almost as if he's fallen out of the main cast because Kubo has been favoring his own and the fan favorites. I also think it was possible that the strength of the Privada Espada wasn't very clear when held in context with how strong the Espada would get from each other when Kubo first introduced all of these characters, and that's one of the problems: the power levels in this series are all out of whack (seriously, look at how strong Barragan's fraccion are and compare that to the earlier Espada). Either way, Uryuu has been really unimpressive and deserves a bigger role in the story and to emerge as a strong member of the cast again.
In fact, the original cast of main characters seems to have been largely discarded. We all know about Chad being a walking punching bag and Orohime's healing abilities are pretty much the only thing of value about her. It's a shame, really.
