You can't say it's the reward for having common ideals, it could be the exact opposite (that good wealth leads to common ideals) or they could have nothing to do with each other in terms of causality.

Countries who don't have a scatter plot of religious beliefs, political opinions, or stereotypical concerns (AKA America) tend to be better off in general really. It's just one thing leading to another. Common political opinion --> A unified, solid Government/Rule --> Better economic state. Calling it a 'reward' is oddly put, you're right; but something along those lines. They usually come out on top amongst those that DO have the scatter plot of BS.
