I honestly don't know the difference between Snare and Stun. I know that a Root (Lux, Morgana, swain) just keeps in you in your place and you can use skills/Auto attack. But with Amumu's ult they can't do anything.

Had a nice experience with a Leona, so I'm not sure about her still, everything I said in my previous post was based of skill info and Riot forum threads, so I'm still debating if she's good or not.
Here's the replay, worth watching cause she did pretty good, she missed some ults but it didn't matter much. I also did a nice job as Udyr, carried the team, even if I made some mistakes.

Snare/Root: cant move/blink
Silence: can't cast spells/use summoner skills other than cleanse
Disarm (thats the DotA term, I don't think LoL has one yet): Can't attack
Stun: Snare+Silence+Disarm
Ammumu ult does not silence.
Not sure if you can use items while silenced (not including qss ofc)
