Topic for an argument essay?

Isn't it basically over the next in line to inherit Muhammad's role as prophet. One side thought that his son should be the one but another side chose a leader/representative who was close to Muhammad. Regardless I heard that Sunni's were more liberal and Shi'ites were more strict in terms of their religious practice.

This event was noted in my World History AP textbook. I figured it was worth noting in religion if world historians thought it was important.
