Actually it's because it hasn't devolved into flaming, name calling and general idiocy.
Threads don't get locked just because they have disparate points of view. We want to see more than one side of an issue because that's what drives conversations and liveliness. What we don't want is flame wars and stuff that makes us look like a bunch of screaming babies, which despite accusations to the contrary, this thread has not reached yet. So far everyone's been fairly mature about their viewpoint and as long as it stays that way there's no need to lock it and the people who get out of control can simply be banned from the thread as necessary.
