Like, if their purpose was to avoid unfairness for some players getting hot time twice, why not shut it down at 2:15 instead of right at 2:29, where something might have happened and bam, 2 hot times for some people.
Let's look at this realistically
We'll start by declaring the obvious: Nexon doesn't do what's most logical. Ever. So while it might seem obvious that shutting it down 15 minutes beforehand would make more sense, it might not have occurred to Nexon. Or perhaps they actually hoped they could fix it with a few minutes to spare and allow everyone on.
It's too coincidental that everyone got kicked off two minutes before hot time for it to be the game crashing. Besides, it was every channel on every server, not just one. So unless the power went out at that exact moment, it's highly unlikely that that is the cause.
My money is on this being the scenario: Nexon thought they could fix it and shut down the login servers at around 5:00 to stop the incidental DDoSing by panicked players trying to get on. They hoped they could allow players on before the event was scheduled to begin. As time grew extremely close they realised there was nothing they could do and that there were still players on and had to decide between pissing off the few players that were still online or pissing off the many who were not able to get on. They chose the latter.
