The crit-a-cola isn't very good unless there's a medic that isn't being paid attention to, and bonk can be used to distract a sentry so your team can get into its range to take it out. Usually though the pistol is good because you can use it for better damage mid-range.

And I never use the sandman, unless i'm trying to earn that last damned achievement I need for it. It just opens up to be one shot in close range by a soldier. I would rather open up with a meat shot then let the enemy locate me in third person view.
