There are a lot of Dairy Queens in Pennsylvania (I can see one from my house! :U) and Ohio, and I know there are some in North Carolina. It definitely isn't just in Texas.
As for the story, I'm glad this kid didn't crash and everyone's ok. If he grows up to be the next Captain Kirk then we can look back on this day and say "I knew about this kid since he was 7!"
