Completing "Empress's Might", a.k.a "the lunar dews quest", allows you to wear gear 10 levels higher than you are.
And, much more importantly, it is a pre-requisite to getting the quests for acquiring a cygnus skill (Soul Driver, in your case) on a normal adventurer (your Paladin).
