Try, "It's been a year since I've had guests. It's been 2 years since any have left alive."
So: The last guests to have left alive were two years ago. Guests kept arriving for another year, but she killed them all. A year ago people stopped coming because they realized no-one returns. Perfectly sensible, to me.
