Half-and-half. I'm desensitized to it, but fortunately for me, not as a direct result of anyone close. Besides, this doesn't really have much to do with the TS, since committing suicide is a selfish endeavor. The TS won't be "losing anyone" if he commits suicide. His memories will simply end at that point, and he doesn't have to worry about any repercussions since he won't be around to witness them.
You talk like someone that hasn't ever been in his situation, like I used to think before I'd experienced it. While it's true that he won't have to deal with the repercussions of his own suicide, there's more to it than that, which isn't something I can really explain to you.
