If you can, try and chop up the steak into smaller chunks. Thanks to the laws of physics when it comes to heat distribution, it takes much longer to cook a whole steak than chopped up chunks. It also helps make sure you're not going to suddenly bite into a raw piece of meat, and it's overall easier to evenly cook the meat.
Oh, hang on. Did you prepare a marinade or seasoning of some sort for the steak? Can't have steak without a kick of flavor.
Also, NO POKERS. Stabbing into the meat will release the juices, and therefore the flavor.
